Manual Osteopathic therapy encompasses a range of methodologies and techniques based on palpatory assessment. A main concept of osteopathy is to release obstructions and realign structures by working with the inherent rhythms of the body, thereby promoting self-regulation. This may include alignment of bone and visceral/organic structures, releasing tension in the muscles and fascia, assisting nerve pathways and passage of vital fluids such as arterial, venous, and lymphatic systems, as well brain and spinal fluid via the cranio-sacral mechanism.

A comprehensive health interview is done along with a full body assessment to look for areas in possible relation to symptoms, as well to examine significant events which the body has been through, involving compensation or adaptations, or even the influence of gravity on posture, or repetitive activities. Important events could be surgeries, illnesses, injuries (e.g. falls or whiplash), and even emotional events can stress the body. Past events can relate to, or compound current symptoms and addressing them can assist with improvements. An example is scar tissue preventing mobility, or causing a pull to distant structures.
Others who might consider osteopathy are those experiencing chronic pain, digestive symptoms, headaches, fatigue, hormonal disturbances, or who have an interest in maintaining a healthy body and physical function. Additionally, any individual can benefit from the opportunity to experience more balance between the sympathetic ‘flight-or-flight’ state of this busy ‘modern world’ and the ‘rest-and-digest’ parasympathetic state, being increasingly recognized as decreasing inflammation.

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy - BCST® is a profound healing practice that supports your whole system through a light listening touch. When our bodies feel supported and heard we can enter the deepest states of relaxation. The key is to bring the system into a state of rest long enough to access the inner wisdom of the body and allow it to facilitate health and wholeness. This inherent wisdom of your body is what guides the session, allowing your body to release and unwind as it needs in order to heal and re-balance.

Our bodies are born orientating to health. BCST® works with our body’s innate intelligence to heal itself. For example, when you get a cut you don’t need to think about how to heal the cut. Our body is programmed to know how.

Rachel has been practicing Massage Therapy for over 25 years. She graduated from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in Vancouver before moving to Kelowna to begin her journey as an RMT, while enjoying the abundant recreation the Okanagan offers in all four seasons. Her passion for the healing arts began at a young age and has grown over the years as she is continually inspired by the body’s complexity and it’s innate ability to heal with proper guidance and facilitation. Her work synthesizes traditional and modern treatment techniques with a thorough understanding of the structure and function of the body. A treatment with Rachel may incorporate modalities such as deep tissue massage, myofascial remodeling, Swedish massage, trigger point therapy, stretching and Muscle Energy Techniques, blending skill with intuition to achieve thorough, effective results while working within each person’s comfort level.

During the pandemic, Rachel stepped back from her practice and enrolled in a 14- month Manual Osteopathic Therapy program to delve a little deeper beyond the musculoskeletal system. This training has enhanced her skills as an RMT, as well as provided more ‘tools’ to explore the other systems of the body, such as the nervous system, the lymphatic/circulatory system, and the organs. Her focus is to efficiently find the root cause of dysfunction and arising compensations using a variety of techniques to provide the most effective treatment tailored specifically for each individual.

Rachel is a compassionate therapist who understands that life can become unbalanced in today’s fast-paced environment. Whether it be an acute injury, chronic pain, or stress-overload, it is essential to slow down and give your body the space to heal, let your mind have a moment to unwind. Rachel strongly believes that incorporating manual therapy into your healthcare can help lead to a more balanced state of wellbeing, and she looks forward to connecting with you.

Sian graduated from the Vancouver College of Massage Therapy in 2017 before moving to the Okanagan for the warmth and vineyards. She always knew a desk job wasn’t for her, and it was through playing sports, dance and practicing yoga that she came to understand the connection between a healthy body and a happy life. Massage Therapy was an intuitive choice as a career. Ever the student, her passion is to constantly learn and share with others to empower them to take control of their own health journey.

Sian’s favourite thing about massage is the care she can give to one person at one time. Once inside the clinic room, the sole focus is on the client and that dedicated time is uninterrupted. It’s such a refreshing change from our over-stimulated lives! She believes everyone can benefit from massage and works with all types of clients through a range of issues. Whether it be injury rehabilitation or a postural imbalance, pre or postpartum or a struggle with mental health, her goal is to provide a safe, healing space for everyone. Alicia is a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist. She graduated from the Body Intelligence Program in 2022 and is now a practicing therapist registered with the Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy Association of North America.

Her childhood was spent in Ottawa with dreams centered around becoming a doctor in some faraway land. She was deeply fascinated with how the body worked and found early, her aptitude to help people learn about how our incredible bodies work. Alicia did get to live in that faraway land, running a social enterprise business in SE Asia for over 10 years.

When she returned to Canada, Alicia embarked on a healing journey, focusing on blending meditation and anatomy. It was this journey of discovery that led her to further study the area of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy. Alicia appreciates and acknowledges the requirements of this type of therapy to address the whole being in its physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual capacities. She has also had great success working with children and has come to realize the great potential this therapy has in children.

Alicia’s passions are diverse and include more than just the umbrella of therapy such as the role of soil in health and regenerative farming, modern homesteading, human trauma resolution techniques and meditation for physical and emotional health.

When she is not in the clinic you will find Alicia at least waist deep in any one of the Okanagan lakes with her family, nose deep in a never-ending pile of books, or elbows deep in the soil gardening.
